Open Source

I love the idea that someone across the world can post a few lines of code that might end up saving me hours.  I also love the idea that whatever handy bits of code I hack out might be useful to somebody somewhere at some time in the future.  This is why I love Open Source code and software.

The majority of websites I create are based on the WordPress platform, which is free for anyone to download, modify, and redistribute.  As a way to contribute back to the WordPress community at large, I enjoy doing the following things:

  • Attending the Asheville Area WordPress Meetup group
  • Speaking at WordCamp events
  • Authoring open source WordPress plugins
  • Putting my code on GitHub so that others can see and use it
